Trolley
Tour
Enjoy a scenic
ride around our 127 acre farm with a stop along the way at our
state of the art greenhouse, where tea plant propagation takes
place. The Tour is narrated by William Barclay Hall, founder of
American Classic Tea and world renowned Tea Taster. He
will educate you about the history of America's own tea garden
while challenging your knowledge of tea.
This tour focuses more on the horticultural aspect of the
Plantation. It will allow you to see the more than 320 varieties of
tea plants in their various stages of growth. It will also
illustrate why our geographical location is ideal for propagating
tea. During harvesting season, you may even witness the Green
Giant, our custom designed harvester in action.
You will discover little known facts about the growth and
production of tea like...
- -why there is no need for us to use any pesticides (herbicides,
fungicides and insecticides)
- -why our custom designed irrigation system plays such an
important role in the survival of the farm
- You will learn all about the history and evolution of
American Classic Tea, all the while soaking in the
breathtaking beauty of our unique, charming and historic
grounds.
Your Trolley Driver will also add to the experience by sharing
his/her knowledge about the history of the Plantation as well as
Wadmalaw Island and its neighboring historic cities and
attractions. It is an educational experience that is a "must do"
when visiting the Charleston Tea Plantation.
